The Spotlight

You’re a spectacle. Your sole purpose is to stand still for the world so it could offer its sage opinion on how you should go about your life. You’re alive so that your mistakes could be revisited and your flaws could be brought to the center stage. You’re under a spotlight except that the spotlight works in negative space. It darkens your universe. It seeps under your skin and colors your insides with suffused blackness. It taints your skin in a dull grey so that your eyes and your nose and your mouth are nothing but a shapeless blob. Egg-shaped darkness. Beautiful and haunting. Like the terrifying depth of the seas. Sublime. Don’t let the seas distract you from the worthlessness that you’re experiencing. It’s as perpetual as this pain that you’re trying to rid yourself of. If I could, I would help turn your skin inside out. I would cause you immense pain and I would make your insides squirm. Just so the monsters residing inside your head are calmed. Or better yet, ignored. Just so you no longer have to listen to the demons deride your existence. But I can’t. I’m not your friend and I’m not your foe. I’m nobody.
